Cat5e - Cat6 Keystone Couplers

Frequently Asked Questions About Cat5e and Cat 6 Couplers - FAQ’s

What is the purpose of using Cat5e or Cat 6 in-line cable couplers?

In-line couplers are used to join (2) Cat6 cables or (2) Cat5e cables in a network installation. Couplers are common in installations where Cat5e or Ca6 cables needs to be extended or repaired. Couplers are also common in installations where Cat5e or Cat 6 cables are passed through a plate or blank patch panel configuration. Since our couplers are the keystone type this means you can install them into blank patch panels, keystone wall plates, or surface mount boxes to help join two cables. In order to use a coupler you must install or already have an RJ45 crimp connector on the ends of your cable. Once the RJ45 is in place you can simply plug the cables directly into the coupler jack.

Do I lose or weaken my network signal when passing through a coupler?

Not at all! All of our network cable couplers provide the PCB technology to ensure maximum performance and signal quality. They are designed to exceed Cat 6 or Cat5e performance standards.

Will these Cat5e and Cat 6 keystone couplers work with all faceplate brands?

Most quality cabling product manufacturers follow an industry standard port configuration. Which means our couplers should work with any brand of faceplates, inserts, surface mount boxes, blank patch panels, furniture faceplates, bezels, and decora inserts. But not all cabling products are made the same. Some no-name no-brand cabling products are poorly made. We only offer the Cat5e and Cat 6 keystone couplers manufactured by ICC Cabling Products. They guarantee a professional grade product that is built to perform.

Do I need a tool to install these in-line couplers?

There is no punching down pairs or preparing any cable ends. They are completely plug and play. But you will need tools and connectors to install RJ45 connectors onto your cables. Or if you are using pre-terminated patch cables then you will not need any parts to complete your installation.
