Kendall Howard 1906-3-008-01 4-Post Vented Adjustable Rack Shelf - FAQs
What is better a vented or non-vented shelf?
They are usually the same price and have the same weight capacity. The purpose of the venting is to increase air flow around the equipment the shelf is supporting. Let’s face it some equipment runs hot and the extra circulation is always a plus. So in general there is value in having the vented feature on your rack shelves.
So does the 1906-3-008-01 come in multiple pieces?
It is packaged in 2 pieces. The 2 pieces are attached together using included screws and nuts. So all the hardware you need for assembly is included. It does not come with rack screws so you have to buy the screws that are made for the rack you are using. Not all racks accept the same screws so read the specifications of the rack product you are using. Once you adjust the 1906-3-008-01 to fit your rack you can use the included assembly screws to lock it into place. The assembly and installation of this rack shelf should only take a few minutes.
Does the 2 piece design hinder the shelf’s strength in supporting heavy equipment?
Not at all. Its weight capacity is 250 pounds. So it is ready to support the heaviest equipment you may have. There are no weight issues at all.
What is the best location on a rack for a 4-post shelf?
Since a 4-post shelf’s main purpose is to support the heaviest equipment on a rack, it really makes sense to put it towards the bottom of your rack. Many installers install their 4-post shelf at the very bottom of a rack and start stacking from the bottom up. But it is not uncommon to have multiple 4-post shelves on a rack configuration. At the end of the day it is all about the look you want to achieve and the convenience you want to create so you can easily work on your equipment during and after an installation. Having a well-planned and organized rack configuration really makes is easy to perform future work on your equipment. The products that you will consistently work on in the future should be towards the top where they are the most accessible.
