The Dakota Alert BBA-2500 is a solar powered wireless infrared break beam system designed to protect and secure the perimeter of a home or business. Unlike other Beam Detector Systems the BBA-2500 requires no wiring which means there is no huge cost from running outdoor power cables and digging trenches out to the detector. Using a solar powered wireless beam detector allows you to quickly secure a perimeter without the huge cost.
The BBA-2500 is powered using innovative lithium ion batteries that are recharged through the solar panels during the day. It utilizes infrared sensing terminals that can be mounted up to 300 feet apart and will send a signal back to the DCR-2500 receiver up to half mile away when the beam is broken.
The Dakota Alert BBA-2500 Break Beam Sensor is a point to point beam that provides the sensitivity needed to combat false alarms from small objects like falling leaves or birds. The BBA-2500 can be mounted high enough to avoid dogs and other animals but it will detect any intruder walking through the beam area. The BBA-2500 beam sensor system is ideal for outdoor applications such as residential properties, warehouses, construction yards, auto dealerships, distribution centers, lumber yards, car dealerships, etc. You can install and integrate up to 3 additional sensors (see the BBT-2500 add-ons) to the BBA-2500. The receiver allows you to also organize the extra sensors into zones so you know which area the beams have been broken by a possible intruder.
The DCR-2500 is the standard receiver for the BBA-2500 system. It has four form “C” relay outputs and one 12VDC output. The output durations are adjustable up to 10 minutes. The receiver will play one of four different tunes that are selected at the transmitter so that different zones can be distinguished. The receiver is powered by a 12VDC transformer. It also offers a 5 minute exit delay so you can leave the house without disturbing any occupants as well as a reminder beep and counter function.

Mounting the Dakota Alert BBA-2500 Break Beam Sensor System
Both beam units of the BBA-2500 can be mounted up to 300ft apart. This gives you the flexibility you need to secure and monitor large perimeter areas. The recommended height is 3-4’ when mounting the beam units. This will put the detectors high enough to detect humans and not small animals like dogs, cats, coyotes, or any other animals you might have in the areas. The BBA-2500 beams are point to point so there must be line of site. The beam units must be mounted level on a stable surface. Most installations have the beams mounted on the wall of a building or on a pole. Try not to install the beams in areas where trees or other objects can block the line of site between the beams.
Mount unit ‘B’ first and face the infrared holes toward where unit ‘A’ will be mounted. When mounting unit ‘A’, face the infrared holes towards unit ‘B’. When the units align there is an audible click in unit ‘A’. To make sure of proper alignment cover only the top two infrared holes. Unit should not alert. Then cover only the bottom two holes, again unit should not alert. Cover all three holes and the unit should alert. If the unit alerts with only the top two infrared holes covered, raise the unit about an inch to correct misalignment. If the unit alerts with only the bottom two infrared holes covered, lower the unit about an inch. When properly aligned, the unit will only alert when all three infrared holes are covered.
Pairing the Dakota Alert BBA-2500 Break Beam Sensors
For a fast and simple installation it is best to pair the two beam sensors before mounting. Set the beams on a flat surface and push the power button on ‘A’ then push the power button on ‘B’. Laying the units flat on a flat surface line up the infrared light holes, the units will then pair and connect to each other. As a result of the paring you will see lights flashing. Leave the units in place for one minute to make sure this process is complete. Once paired, test them by completely blocking all 3 holes (2 infrared light holes and indicator hole. Unit should send a signal to the DCR-2500 and sound an alert. Unit will only alert if all 3 holes are completely blocked for at least 100ms. If an object passes through the beam faster than that it will not be detected. ‘A’ unit contains the radio transmitter module. The ‘A’ unit transmitter module is factory set to match the zone 2 setting of the DCR-2500.
